Taking Care of Your Hair

22 Jan

So far we’ve talked a bit about a hair coloring trend, the Ombre. We also talked about the art of the blow out. Hair isn’t really a topic we can wrap up, and I’ll link all the cool sites I continue to find. I’m also interested in the fun things you do with your hair. Now, as this blog is in it’s total infancy, a linky party would be a bit premature.  So for the giveaway this weekend, I’m going to go back to the comments section.  I want you to post a comment telling me where you feel you could use some help. Or post a comment with a success story.. tell us about a product you LOVE! As a hairdresser, I am completely spoiled by having profession product available to me at a discount. When someone sits in my chair and asks me if there’s anything at the store they could try, I have ZERO advice. And it’s not because I’m trying to sell them MY retail (I don’t earn commission on retail at the salon!), it’s because I honestly have no clue!

Here’s what’s up for grabs:

Surface Purify Shampoo

I use this shampoo every third wash, to really get my hair feeling clean. The Surface line is totally environmentally friendly, vegan, not tested on animals.. you know the drill. This is a GREAT shampoo for blondes, as it removes buildup and deposits in light hair. I have uber dark hair, and I love it just as much for mine!

Surface Trinity Protein Cream

And I’m telling you right now, this stuff is the shizz. After I shampoo, I towel dry (not condition) and mist about 15 pumps of this all over my hair. I then finger comb it before blow drying it. Trinity Protein Cream has an incredible amount of good stuff, and unique proteins that don’t get your hair crunchy (as some protein creams may make your hair.) If I’m going to curl or flat iron my hair, I also mist a little on the ends, then pull the iron through. The heat seals the protein in, and makes for much healthier looking ends.

Today on the homestead, the hubbins is hanging some cabinets. Mood of the house: Stressed. Look for a fun post tomorrow, when I won’t get the ‘hairy eye’ for being on the computer.

Contest ends: Friday, January 27th. Please pass the blog along to your friends. If they mention you in their comment, I’ll give you credit for an extra post :)

    Love Morrocan oil

    • kymdenise January 24, 2012 at 1:40 pm #

Their entire line smells fantastic. Love it for sure!

I could use help for fine hair control. I’ve tried the silicones which make my hair look greasy. I’d like something that doesn’t have a smell that makes my eyes water and itch or makes me sneeze :) ) I have tons of little hairs that stick up and my blown out straight hair turns curly or fuzzy after a couple hours. Frumpy :( (

Hmmm.. I’m going to have to prowl around. I know that the Surface Protien spray would definitely give your hair some stamina. I’m wondering if a finishing product like a hair Taffy would work for just running your hands over your finished style to stick down the renegades.

I could use some help making my curly-ish thick short hair have more curl, and less of a ‘giant puff’ I swear my hair looks like blue cotton candy! @_@

    • kymdenise January 25, 2012 at 12:47 pm #

What do you use on it now?

      • Kisa January 27, 2012 at 9:52 pm #

I use tresemme (sp?) shampoo and conditioner meant for dyed hair (since I bleach and dye the heck outta it) and then I use Depp (dep?) gel to try and make it curl without being a poof. >.>
Okay okay, it’s not as light blue as blue cotton candy, and it has some purple in it too. >.>

      • kymdenise January 28, 2012 at 1:57 am #

Step away from the Depp. Tresemme smells awesome for sure though. Have you tried serums or texture products like moulding cremes?

    • knittinkninja January 27, 2012 at 2:39 pm #

I kinda want to see your blue cotton candy hair… :)

I have wavy, middle of my back hair… no bangs. I like it long but I keep it up in a bun all the time because I couldnt have my hair down when I had little kids (those darn fingers getting stuck & pulling!) I feel like its always super flat on top and then gets poofy at around my ears. It ONLY looks nice right out of the shower. I dont blow dry, I dont use ANY products except a leave in conditioner on the ends to help combat frizz.

Product is a must. Some kind of definer or texturizer. You might also benefit from a pushpowder for some volume at the roots.

      • Robin Ayers Baldwin January 27, 2012 at 5:54 pm #

        What is pushpowder?

      • kymdenise January 28, 2012 at 1:56 am #

Push powder is a light powder product you dust into your hair at the crown.. When you work it in, it makes your hair grippy and full. It feels kind of backcombed, without backcombing. It’s miracle powder. There are other brands out there, but to date, the one I like the most is Surface’s. Bed head has a cheaper version, but it’s not half as strong or sturdy.

      • the wife January 27, 2012 at 9:31 pm #

Pushpowder makes me curious, too. Never heard of it.

    Dearest Kimmie,

You would run away from my hair screaming in fear. It is terrible. And dumb. And ugly. And dumb. The end.

    • kymdenise January 27, 2012 at 5:02 pm #

It probably has self esteem issues because you say mean things about it.. thptt..

I need help with my hair. I really want to grow it out, but my hair is SO fine that when it gets any length on it at all (between chin and shoulders), it just lays flat, like a dead, limp fish. I don’t want dead fish head, but I want longer hair.

    • kymdenise January 27, 2012 at 4:58 pm #

Okay, this goes against all that is current and now.. buuuuuut.. I just did a body perm on a client with similar hair. I’m talking big rods. We used purple rods, and it just messied her hair up enough that if she wants, she can blow it smooth and it will have more body. If she wears it in a ponytail it can be big and messy and cute. Just a thought.

I love surface cream! It help smooth my bleached hair!

    • kymdenise January 28, 2012 at 1:58 am #

So you’ve tried it? It’s so full of awesome..

  8. thismelrocks January 27, 2012 at 10:39 pm #

How great of you to run this giveaway. Love ya!

    *Sent by Cayla Wilkerson!!!

My hair and scalp become dry easily, seems it happens with season changes, so once I get it under control, it happens again! I would love to figure out how to keep my hair healthy and moisturized, but w/out heavy products which make my hair flat or greased up!

    Thanks for offering this giveaway!

    • kymdenise January 28, 2012 at 1:59 am #

Surface has a trinity line which is perfect to keep your hair balanced. Another great line is Paul Mitchel’s Tea Tree, or Awapuhi and Ginger..

Oooh how fun! I love playing wif mah hairz!

  11. Nadine January 28, 2012 at 12:29 am #

I shared you on my blog.
My current hair issue is.. I can NOT get a bump to stay in my hair! I don’t want Jerseylicious hair, but a little bump to make my ponytail look cute when I don’t feel like straightening before school shouldn’t be too much to ask. Sigh.

    • kymdenise January 28, 2012 at 2:01 am #

Thanks for the share! And I’m telling you, the push powder is a miracle. I’ll have to do a giveaway for that at some point.
